Doctor Ianna Cel analyzed the rakghoul serum you brought her and discovered that, while it functions, it is only partially effective due to mutations in the rakghoul virus.

The doctor provided you with some of the serum for protection and asked you to become infected by any rakghoul. Fight rakghouls as you travel across Taris and attempt to get infected.

In order to get the infected buff, you need to find one of the large red rakghoul’s, and let them hit you until the quest updates. These mobs are usually found to the north west by Waypoint Station Aurek.

You have an hour and a half to get this debuff, and do not need to worry about it wearing off as you travel to turn in the quest.

Testing the idea of “Winterfell” I abandoned the mission after an hour fighting against all kinds of Rakghoul. When I accepted the Mission again was infected by the first mob that I fought. I’ve been infected North of the “Station Aurek”, near the point where the mission brand.

I had the same problem. I accepted the quest and then lost connection. I ended up having to abandon it and retake it. After regaining the quest I was infected by the first mob. It was acting like the previous ‘infections’ were glitched out.

Was just infected by a small rakghoul but it was north of Aurek station so maybe the location is important.

I spent the entire hour and a half in the designated area, fighting rakghouls with my shields off, and got temporarily infected several times, but never enough for the quest to update so I could move on to the droid. Finally just abandoned the quest.

Here’s an update. I was going in on the Heroic mission in the same area, so I picked up the Catalyst mission again, and this time, got infected in my second skirmish with the rakghouls. In general discussion later on, someone mentioned a glitch with that mission. So, if you don’t get infected, try abandoning the mission, then reacquiring it. That appears to have worked for me.
